Course is out and back on super smooth and seamless asphalt. ~ 347 feet of elevation change. The first 5 miles of the course has a about a 10 foot shoulder. In Rio Medina the shoulder becomes a 4 foot wide bike lane. Turnaround is at mile 12.5 on a long straightaway at the top of a very shallow rise to give cars coming from both directions increased visibility of the Medina County Deputy working the turnaround. The return leg of the 40K course is ~12.3 miles. In addition to the turnaround deputy, Medina County Sheriffs will be posted at the intersections of Potranco Road & RR 471, RR 2676 & RR471 in Rio Medina, and at Rio Medina Road (Old Lake Rd) & RR 471 to control cross traffic and help ensure your safety. A Castroville City Police officer will be at the Start area to control/slow traffic down.
